Kintsugi embodies the philosophies of Mottainai. It is a Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the broken seams with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. This adds history and beauty to the object rather than hiding it.
